When Little Joe and Hoss go to Sacramento, Hoss meets a young woman and quickly falls in love. Back in Virginia City, Adam investigates her background and learns that the beautiful Helen Layton is a compulsive gambler whose gambling debts ruined her former husband. Hoss refuses to believe him, so Adam sets out to prove the truth.
