In the days following the Civil War, Confederate veteran John Chandler (Alan Ladd) arrives in a Northern town with his young son. After running afoul of a bullying sheep herder, Chandler agrees to work on the farm of a woman who struggles to defend her land from the same rancher.
Trivia: The Proud Rebel features a star-studded cast. Olivia de Havilland was a two-time Academy Award for Best Actress (The Heiress (1950) and To Each His Own (1947)). Dean Jagger (Harry Burleigh) won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for 1949's Twelve O'Clock High. Alan Ladd is known for his role as Shane in the western classic of the same name. He's the father of David Ladd, who won the Golden Globe award for Best Juvenile actor for his role in this film. Cecil Kellaway (Dr. Davis) was twice nominated for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar, for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner (1967) and The Luck of the Irish (1948).
