The story of the two-month fight to take the Japanese held island of Iwo Jima. Over 20,000 Japanese and 7000 American soldiers were killed in the battle, which included the moment when five marines and a Navy corpsman raised the US flag on Mt. Suribachi. The event was immortalized in a photograph by Joe Rosenthal and is also shown in this film.
Trivia: The movie received an Academy Award nomination for Best Documentary.
