Five people awake to find themselves in a town in the Old West with no idea of how they got there. The local sheriff tells them that they are convicted murderers in a world where they must be enslaved or earn the right to citizenship by murdering somebody. We soon discover that events are not real, but part of a virtual reality exercise.
Trivia: The film won first prize at the 1976 Paris Science Fiction Film Festival. It is sometimes called the first virtual reality themed movie. British actress Samantha Eggar won a Golden Globe and Palme d'Or as Best Actress for her role in 1965's The Collector. She also starred in the 2006 TV series Commander in Chief. Keir Dullea played Dr. Dave Bowman in Stanley Kubrick's 2001.
