John Wayne stars as badman Quirt Evans. He's a gunfighter with a bad reputation. When he gets wounded, a Quaker girl (Gail Russell) takes him in. As Evans falls for the girl he begins to examine his violent past. A John Wayne classic in which a gunfighter tries to renounce his evil ways while battling his obsession with killing the man who murdered his father (Bruce Cabot).

Trivia: The first film produced by John Wayne, it was not a big hit when it was released but it is now the John Wayne movie most frequently broadcast on TV. Actor Bruce Cabot starred as Jack Driscoll in the original King Kong. Writer and Director James Edward Grant was a close friend of Wayne who also wrote screenplays for many other John Wayne films, including The Alamo and McClintock. In 1958 he received an Oscar nomination for Best Screenplay for the film The Sheepmen.
