A black Civil War veteran becomes co-owner of a ranch, outraging a group of local Confederate Army veterans who come after him and his Indian wife.

Trivia: Burl Ives (McMasters) won a Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role in the classic western movie The Big Country (1958). Actor David Carradine (White Feather) is best known for his starring role in the Western TV series Kung Fu, for which he received and Emmy Award nomination for Best Actor. He's the son of actor John Carradine who appears in this movie as "the Preacher". Screenwriter Harold Jacob Smith was a two-time Academy Award nominee for the Best Screenplay award. He won once for The Defiant Ones (1958).
