Trivia: Rio Grande marked the third collaboration between John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara, following The Quiet Man (1952) and Fort Apache (1948). It is also the third film in director John Ford's Cavalry Trilogy, preceded by Fort Apache (1948) and She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949). Each film explores different aspects of the U.S. Cavalry during the post-Civil War period. John Ford makes a cameo appearance in the movie as a bugler during the graduation scene.
