Trivia: Marlon Brando was already a Hollywood legend when he made One-Eyed Jacks. This was the only film he ever directed. The movie was originally set to be directed by Stanley Kubrick with a script by Sam Peckinpah, but both left due to creative conflicts. Brando and Karl Malden were frequent collaborators. One-Eyed Jacks marked their third film together, following A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), for which Malden won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and On the Waterfront (1954), which earned Brando a Best Actor Oscar. Director Martin Scorsese often called this movie his favorite Western.
