One Eyed Jacks (1961)

Director: Marlon Brando
Actors: Marlon Brando, Karl Malden, Pina Pellicer, Katy Jurado, Slim Pickens, Ben Johnson, Ray Teal
Runtime: 141 min.

The outlaw Kid Rio (Marlon Brando) is betrayed by his partner Dad Longworth (Karl Malden) and he goes to prison. Longworth goes straight and becomes a sheriff. Five years later Rio escapes from prison and sets out for revenge.

Trivia: Marlon Brando was already a Hollywood legend when he made One-Eyed Jacks. This was the only film he ever directed. The movie was originally set to be directed by Stanley Kubrick with a script by Sam Peckinpah, but both left due to creative conflicts. Brando and Karl Malden were frequent collaborators. One-Eyed Jacks marked their third film together, following A Streetcar Named Desire (1951), for which Malden won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, and On the Waterfront (1954), which earned Brando a Best Actor Oscar. Director Martin Scorsese often called this movie his favorite Western.
