In the days leading up to the Civil War, Southern sympathizers led by William Quantrill try to sabotage the construction of a railroad meant to supply Union Army outposts. As a response, the Army sends Corps of Engineers Captain John Nelson (Sterling Hayden) to supervise.
Trivia: 6’5” lead man Sterling Hayden was a special forces operative during World War 2, conducting missions off the coast of Yugoslavia. Paramount pictures billed him as “the Most Beautiful Man in the Movies”. Clayton Moore (Henchman Stone) is best known for his role as TV’s The Lone Ranger.
